Divinity – Singularity

You don’t think of too many Canadian metal bands going over to the western side of the country. Perhaps KEN Mode, Into Eternity and of course Strapping Young Lad.
Divinity wear their Canadian pride on their sleeve on “Singularity” with this mechanically styled death metal album that takes heavy influence from some Montreal progressive acts such as Neuraxis (especially with the technical, yet melodic flair), while taking their fair share of hidden keyboard support, simple guitar layering ideas and partially screamed/sung vocals from Strapping Young Lad.
While many bands from Quebec are technical, I’ll dare to say that while “Singularity” has its fair share of technical prowess (especially in the guitar solos), the music itself doesn’t overdo the technical flair, and may be in fact less technical than many bands from Quebec, and it works to the albums advantage. With all the roaming mechanical riffs, melodies and harmonies interwoven in the album, there’s always some simpler heavy industrial riffs that come out. The end result of some of the mechanical style of death metal results in some similarities to Decapitated as well. You can expect those vocals to move from a scream/sing from Strapping Young Lad to something very similar without the singing tone, a few low growl accents, and even clean singing as well.
The end result comes out as some enjoyable mechanical tinkering.
