The Destro – The Harmony of Discord

There’s always going to be some bands trying to pull some ideas together that would seem to work well together. The Destro manage to pull together the slower groove-metal moments of Pantera with low-down and dirty sludge, with slimy string slack, and perhaps even a little Lair of the Minotaur – though the comparisons with Lair of the Minotaur come with the mix of the bands music and vocal stuff, generalized harsh barks with gargled screaming.
The only problem is that the album drags due to the lack of hooks, and the intensity never quite gets a chance to make up for the lack of anything catchy. There’s also at least one or two nearly intolerable single-note breakdowns as well. That being said the formula has been set, and it’s a great idea, and all The Destro needs to do is run with it. I think if they were to put some hard time in as road warriors, they might perfect what they have, so I’m looking forward to their next album.
