Dinosaur Jr. – Farm

“Farm” marks Dinosaur Jr.’s second full-length after returning from an almost decade-long hiatus. “Farm” also marks the bands ninth studio album, since their first can be found way back in 1984.
A few tracks in will give you the complete feel of this alternative grunge album. There can be an excessive amount of distortion from the guitars that seem to move on at a leisurely pace and have a tendency to cry in the solos. Some of the melodies, both guitar and vocal, can go as far back as the mid ‘90’s where bands like Soul Asylum and Pearl Jam flourished. There’s even a song with a vague resemblance to stoner rock, which perhaps is mainly due to the relaxed atmosphere permeating the entire effort.
Dinosaur Jr. used to call influences from hardcore punk and noise rock, and although I’m not familiar with the bands early catalog, it doesn’t seem like the band is drawing on those influences anymore. “Farm” is a good alternative rock effort for a band that’s managed to stick around since 1984.
