The Black – Alongside Death

Some people want their 2nd wave style black metal to been as dyed-in-the-wool as humanly possible. Here you’ve got your distant, distorted croaking vocals, cold star guitars, tremolo picked riffs, raw production, dissonant arpeggios on tap done just right (and in a very standard) method. The the slow gloomy trudge of “Dead Seed”, the half punk half Celtic Frost styled “Fleshless” and the Silent Hill like ambient “The Wrath From Beneath” however add a significant amount of flavour to an album that already has a bit of steam behind it with the conviction and the “made just for you” underground feeling of a tape traded album. For the most part youve heard all this before, but there’s just a little extra “oomph” behind it.
