Goes Cube – Another Day Has Fallen

Blending musical genres has always been around, but there’s only a handful of bands who can jump to a completely different sound and pull it off without any effort. Goes Cube have created an album with elements of metal, punk, hardcore, post-hardcore and prog rock mixed all together to form a line of songs that are loose and chaotic, but at the same time fashioned into structured harmonies and creative riffs that sound like your above average garage band.
First we have “Bluest Sky”, which takes old-school metalcore and grinds a European death metal riffing style behind his screaming voice, which isn’t actually screaming. Next “Grinding the Knife Blade” comes in with no time to breath and takes an entirely different turn with one of those garage/modern rock sounds with a driving guitar and a clean, melodic voice, but turns up the (post-)hardcore in the chorus. But the genre switching doesn’t stop there as the third track slows the tempo right down with low volume, shimmering guitars. I could go on about each track, about how it sounds like a different band from song to song, but somehow blends together to form this distinct, grandiose, pseudo-heavy monster. Heck, I could even tell you how much the track “Saab Sonnet” sounds like Arcade Fire took control of Thursday, which in turn tuned their guitars with some heavier distortion, but I wont.
So all there is left to say is that “Another Day Has Fallen” is one of those albums in which that hardcore/metal kid you kind of know from that place you go a lot just can’t get enough of, and when you take a listen, you fully understand.
