Inevitable End – The Severed Inception

Has anyone noticed a few bands in the world of death metal change a bit since deathcore started hitting it off big? Now before you get all wound up from that statement, I’m not saying that’s what has happened with “The Severed Inception” – it’s some fairly technical death/grind quite unrelated to gore/grind. Yet for the lacking of anything hardcore, I can easily see this band appealing to the same deathcore crowd that loves Necrophagist and Psycroptic. Perhaps it’s the vocals that are more of a mid-ranged bark that comes close to some other metalcore bands, or the dissonant skronks that remind me of Found Dead Hanging, a couple of extremely obvious breakdowns (don’t worry, not the single-note variety), or the super-glossed production with a solid-cracking snare on a this bands first release. I’m only making observations though, as those elements certainly don’t detract from the album, they’re just there. In fact, “The Severed Inception” is an insanely fast whirlwind of destruction moving from tremolo picked death metal riffs, to hold-em-down chords to roving riffage. It’s high energy that’s moving all the time, with no stopping. The end effect is incredibly intense with sudden and subtle hooks hidden throughout that pass by so fast that they’re hard to catch on the first few listens, and different by just enough to be notable.
