Crime in Stereo – Selective Wreckage

There’s a popular form of music today that claims lineage to hardcore, although it’s been turned into some pretty shallow radio or near-radio whiny recycling. Thankfully there’s still a whole slew of bands in the underground who make the post-hardcore feeling actually come from hardcore.
Sitting back for a minute and giving “Selective Wreckage” some casual listens rather than sit-down analogies really helped me to reflect on it. It really feels like a trip from the 80’s to the early millennium, all done in raw, made-just-for you fashion. It really helps to explain how a band like Sick of it All can be related to Thursday, hence the 80’s mid-paced hardcore feel moving to a couple of hints of experimentation, as well as attempts to sing on key.
While not entirely original (as the overall hardcore influences are worn right on the sleeves of Crime in Stereo), the element that carries “Selective Wreckage” is the whole underground aesthetic emotion. The most amazing part however is forgetting that “Selective Wreckage” is in fact a collection of b-sides and rarities and such.
