Evergrey – Torn

How do you like your power metal? These dudes in Everygrey prefer to have a more sandy rock voice rather than the typical soaring from most power metal vocalists, the guitars buzz during the hold-em-down, hand-in-the-air-after-you’ve-hit-a-chord segments, and when those guitarist stand on their own to riff away, it does move over to some roaming death metal-like territory. If the action hasn’t lightened up, or their in the midst of an emotive blue-gone-shred guitar solo. There’s also those keyboards backing the action up, typically with meandering piano melodies, but they tend to get lost within the cracks.

Despite some of the additions to power metal (some we’ve seen before), the end result sill hinges on the power metal playbook, as those new additions are few and far between, as the special feature in very song shows up as a special riff that appears 3 times during the course of a track.
