Falconer - Among Beggars and Thieves

The more I get power metal thrown my way, the more I realize that it’s like pop-metal over in Europe. Pop music of course is the kind of music that regular people aren’t supposed to think about, it’s just supposed to be safe and have catchy hooks. To be fair, this does stretch power metal a hint with some neo-classical riffs, a more human voice from singer Mathias Blad and some stops along the way at a folk tavern. Beyond that, this is power metal through and through, with some of the keyboard supported moments reminding one of Dragonforce. Thankfully the pacing of the album changes throughout providing the listener with ballads, acoustic intros, mid-paced movers and quick runners. Unfortunately the trip is a safe one, meaning that if one were to live in a Viking/folk metal family at home, the kids are probably playing the black metal and death metal versions with the power metal parents throwing Falconer on.
