Anima - The Daily Grind

A lot of people don’t know this, but there’s actually quite a few death metal bands out there who don’t listen to much death metal. There’s just too many bands in the underground repeating the same old death metal cliches. There’s a flip side to this story, as being the Morbid Angel fan I am, I’ve really noticed their influences stretch far and wide into bands that aren’t death metal. What am I trying to get at here people? Do something different, because playing death metal without being creative is boring!
I’ve done so many deathcore reviews lately that I’m starting to swear that these bands are blurring together. While Anima isn’t a Job For A Cowboy clone, they do play by the exact playbook that melodic metalcore gone deathcore bands have done countless times (you can always tell by the nastier guitar melodies and harmonies). It’s getting to the point where I feel like I’m being buried in a sea of blast beats, smith blasts, tremolo picked guitar riffs and mind-numbing singe note breakdowns. All these elements might as well be replaced by a click track. “The Daily Grind” indeed.
