Head On Collision - Ritual Sacrifice

The crossover thrash surge continues to grow, but still manages to keep some of it’s underground ties. Head On Collision ties those old-school thrash roots to punk a little better than some o their other peers who sometimes don’t even know the stuff even has a punk connection, and toping it all of with a grittier voice. Head On Collision also ties themselves to the bands that also weren’t the frontrunners of the genre back in the day with by sticking to the tried-and-true cliches as well, which is most apparent in the song titles and lyrics. How about “Violence and Aggression”, “Enemy Lines”, or the title song of “Ritual Sacrifice”?

The album is also held back by some sub-par production and mixing, where instruments take on strange volume levels, such as the bass drum sticking out much louder than everything else, or guitar solos getting buried under the action, not to mention when guitars go out of tune, or paying goes out of time… Raw production is of course an art that’s hard to master, it’s certainly not something you can run out and buy, which would be incredibly fitting in the case of this band.

You can certainly feel metal night at the run down bar, so perhaps a more underground feeling would fit much better with this home-town style attack. While not a band I’d recommend to run out and buy, they’d be hella fun to see as openers when a metal tour runs through town.
