Chingalera - Dose

It can be hard to keep the momentum going sometimes, especially when a band plays something so different. I reviewed Chingalera’s album “In The Shadow Of The Black Palm Tree” from last year, and was blown away by the stoner rock taken to such long, epic proportions.
The first song, “The Endless Bummer” builds from slow, quiet atmospheres to a drawn out, instrumental stoner rock jam, with the follow-up, “You Were Happey When you Came in Here” being a droning ambient track with windy passages an controlled feedback. “Eveler” moves to a darker instrumental song with jagged noise poking out. “Fake Maria” tends to faulter a little bit as the only track with distorted, yelped vocals and some uninspired riffing that comes off feeling pointless with no direction. “Twenty Three” is the album closer, and is a slower jam, with crunching guitars and sandy singing. This one is much more focused at closing the album up and sending the point home.
I normally don’t give reviews of single tracks, but this was an instance where the songs stood enough on their own that almost each could merit their own side on a split 10″.
