Krisiun - Southern Storm

We’ve certainly entered a new day and age of death metal. Bands try and out-heavy one another, outrun each other, or turn their songs into boring musical exercises. How about writing songs though? How about some catchy hooks pulled together with verse/chorus arrangements that cause said songs finish themselves up like a short story? This is exactly how “Southern Storm” is. While pretty damn heavy, you’ve probably heard heavier. While pretty damn fast, you’ve probably heard some go faster. There’s points where they tech the action up, replacing a riff with a run or a harmony, the shred the fretboard to pieces, but the album isn’t buried under unneeded proficient playing.
As a little added bonus, Krisiun overs a fellow Brazilian band, doing “Refuse/Resist” by Sepultura. While they didn’t really add anything new to the song, they did bring it kicking and screaming into the modern era.
In the end, this is practically what death metal would sound like if heavy songs got radio play, simply by arranging hooking riffs and vocal lines into little death metal fables.
