G.G. Elvis and the T.C.P Band – Back From the Dead (CD/DVD)

G.G. Elvis and the TCP Band is made up of six Nardcore musicians who decided to cover some Elvis tunes. As a fan of punk covers I thought this album should be an immediate hit. I was slightly disappointed.

Don’t expect a sound similar to the punk cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, G.G. Elvis and the TCP Band uses the Nardcore grunge sound like a modern day Ramones or a slightly speedier Social Distortion. The vocals are scratchy and virile and similar to DOA’s Joey Shithead. It’s also hard to hear the original song through the random tempo jumps. A few songs worthy of a listen include “A Little Less Conversation”, which starts off with Black Flag’s “Nervous Breakdown” riff, “Blue Suede Shoes”, and “Intro/That’s All Right Mama”, which chants the Ramones’ “Hey Ho, Let’s Go” a few times.

Unless you’re a punk and a huge fan of Elvis, I’m not sure who this album is geared towards. At least it sounds like they had fun recording it. Maybe a bit too much fun…
