Obscurus Advocam - Verbia Daemonicus

The French strike again, and rarely do they fail in delivering quality either quality or creativity. In those case we have keyboardless black metal with higher production values. Unlike other black metal bands that fall into the field of lacking keyboards and higher production, Obscurus Advocam isn’t intent on simply beating you down with a wall of blast beats. Instead, they conjure up the cold, dreary image of agony and pain, yet beneath the surface there’s the hint of romanticism, feeling the frozen loss that goes right along with vampires and suicide. The long dreary songs really drive that point home, with dreary melodies infiltrating the effort without getting stuck in black metal cliches.
Obscurus Advocam may not pull in outside influences to black metal, but they do manage to stretch the confines of the genre to it’s very limit.
