36 Crazyfists - The Tide and Its Takers

Although this is the first time I’ve heard 36 Crazyfists, their sound seems all too familiar. Their 4th studio release, “The Tide and Its Takers”, blends melodic metalcore with hints of nü-metal. To be more specific, several tracks have the vigorously energetic guitar/drum combination of At The Gates while a small hand full of tracks have a more resounding tone similar to recent Atreyu. Vocals consist of screaming verses and a sung chorus akin to most modern post-hardcore. However, while the majority of screaming is what you hear from band to band, vocalist Brock Lindow throws in some loud shouting and the occasional death shriek.

One thing I do know is that when 36 Crazyfists first started out half a decade ago, their sound was slightly more nü -etal. You can tell it’s still in their background as they’ve progressed to a metalcore style. I can’t recommend this album as it gets lost in a sea of metalcore/post-hardcore releases.
