Less Than Jake – Pezcore (Re-Release + DVD)

Originally released in the late summer of 1995, “Pezcore” (Asian Man Records – reissue on Sleep It Off, which is Less Than Jake’s brand new label) brings the listener a very catchy style of third wave ska. Short, clean attacks of the guitar (think faster reggae) combined with horns and cheerful singing vocals make up most of the album. Since this was LTJ’s first LP, a few songs contain no horns as they didn’t have horn players in their very early days of writing.
This album produces such fan favourites as “Liquor Store”, “Jen Doesn’t Like Me Anymore”, and the ska-punk anthem “Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts”. The entire 19 tracks will keep you skanking (type of dance, look it up) for the whole 47 minutes. By the way, they’ve also included a Live DVD of their February 2007 performance where they played the full album in its entirety.
“Pezcore” was a solid foundation for the Florida based band in the rapidly growing third wave ska era of the mid ‘90s. It’s now 13 years later and with 9 full lengths (on 6 different labels) under their belt, Less Than Jake has become a very influential act for many punks and ska-punks.
