Verse And Radiation - Along the Celestial Ruins

Every now and then I get something that’s incredibly hard to peg. This album falls somewhere in thrash, hardcore and punk, and even just barely a hint of progressive, yet somehow I know that description isn’t enough. What’s attractive about “Along the Celestial Ruins” is the general feeling that the band simply wanted to have fun (as the subject matter and general vibe doesn’t run incredibly deep), and allowed the inspiration to flow freely from their fingers and voices. The common element is that you can see this band run in the world of Isis, Mastodon and Converge, yet somehow while still maintaining their raw, underground aura without being as heavy or caustic as those aforementioned bands. Of course the point of bands that fit this almost modern generation of noise/core evolved from the 90’s wasn’t always to outdo each other in terms of heaviness, audio stabbings, speed racing, or anything else, but to turn sideways into the unexpected. For the most part the goal achieved, but they’re not quite as good at sucking the listener in as some other bizarre bands are in the world of heavy/noise/core.
