Textures - Silhouettes

Meshuggah is a very unique, influential and popular band, so it’s no surprise that other bands would come to base their own sound heavily on the strange beast that the Swedish band Meshuggah is. Considering the strange time signatures and degree of skill to execute Meshuggah’s particular style of metal, it should come as no surprise that a band would eventually come along to throw a couple little bits and pieces of progressive into the mix. What’s unexpected is the Soilwork like nuances of keyboards and industrial effects, as well as some of the clean sung vocals that bear some resemblance to Soilwork and Killswitch Engage. Don’t worry though, as the clean singing isn’t used often, and when it is, it’s not for the screamed verse/sung chorus format.
Textures have been able to put their own spin on the Meshuggah polyrhythms, so it’s to the point where you can tell it’s them. The action has a lot of bottom-end heaviness to it, and it is also very busy with a significant amount of layering from the second guitarist throwing an extra guitar line on top, as well as the keyboards making an actual useful addition to what’s going on. When the clean vocals get strewn across at just the right moment, it ends in a very epic feeling.
Finally, a way to make use of those Killswitch Engage vocals without coming off as the next thing in pop-metal.
