Kamelot - Ghost Opera (The Second Coming)

This review is a bit different from the other reviews, as Kamelot already released “Ghost Opera” in 2007, but this release is getting 4 bonus tracks and a full-on bonus CD with 10 live songs. I didn’t get the first CD, which contains the regular album and 2 bonus videos, so this review is based around the mostly live album.
The problem that live songs have as bonus tracks, or in this case, almost a whole CD, is that they’re often not treated with the same care or effort when recording as planned live albums which are meant to stand alone. As a result, you probably wouldn’t get to hear the raw power pouring off the band. Not only that, but most of the bigger power metal bands these days are typically so well-trained and well-practised, and their albums sport such good production, that unless they can put some real different sonic differences into a live show, the difference between a live power metal album and the studio effort is nearly pointless. In this case, you do get to hear the audience, and their reaction to the music with cheers, the stage banter between songs, and they do sing along with the songs (especially the ballads).
Of course, if you’re a fan of Kamelot in all their power metal glory with lots of piano fluttering, orchestration and soaring female vocals dashed into the action, this second coming of “Ghost Opera” would be a great reason to get this effort if you don’t already have it.
Personally, I found the execution for be fairly standard, so if you’re not a power metal fan to begin with, I highly doubt there would be anything extra in this effort to pull in new fans, even with the huge amount of bonuses included.
