The Sword – Gods Of The Earth

So this band, The Sword is supposed to be some hipster band? The next kind-of-big thing in the world of rock where 60 000 units is the new 100 000 units? Where the new “rock stars” are bands who can afford to move out of their parents house to live in an apartment, and not go broke? Where albums that are “huge hits” sell 300 000 to 500 000 units in 2 years? Personally, I don’t see what the big deal is about The Sword pissing people off. I don’t hear that much about them, except that their label, Kemado is either owned or funded by a major label, or something like that. I’ve heard a discussion or two through Decibel Magazine about some big deal being made 2 years ago, but except for the “they have a new album” news barely trickling my way, I’ve barely heard much about The Sword.

What I got here on “Gods Of The Earth” is intense, quickly played 70’s doom with top production values from the mid-70’s, only with some super-bottom heavy guitars with lots of fuzz and a little bite to them. While the pace isn’t super-fast, it does sound like they took a whole bunch downers before trying to run a sprint, topped off with some huge, beefy, hooking riffs.

Well doesn’t this just suck? My rant actually takes up more space than the actual review does.
