Deadsea - Deadsea

Some people just love to jam in as many different genres of music as they can into something. With Deadsea, the first thing they started off with was progressive, with plenty of jazzy riffing and runs, after that comes the 70’s doom, thrash, and melodic death metal along with vocals that transition between clean harmonies and some pretty rough thrashy growls. While this sounds somehow like a disjointed mess, to be perfectly honest, they’ve melded everything together seamlessly, and for being metal and heavy, it’s actually quite upbeat, yet they still manage to keep a raw and underground feel. The technical wizardry is well-balanced between simple moments, making those technical moments a nice yin to a yang.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Deadsea probably wasn’t thinking at all of Opeth, nor do they sound like Opeth, but they do have very similar elements. If Deadsea lands on just the right tour, they’d probably make a lot of unexpected new fans. Finally, progressive that doesn’t crumble under the weight of pretentiousness!
