Another Kind Of Death – Sleepless Every Night

I’ll admit, the band name, the album title, the album cover all had me fooled. This isn’t ex-girlfriend hating radio post-hardcore although there are a few lyrics that point in that direction. No, this is Nora inspired jagged metallic post-hardcore played at a lazy/relaxed pace. The relaxed tempos are the big feature, as it sounds like the band could play faster, but they just choose to play at the speed they’re comfortable at, which is in itself actually a bit of a nice change-up. It’s the kind of heavy music I could put on in my car at a low volume and not worry about. Every now and then, there’s a bit of rock and not-so-screamy vocals to not piss off regular people.
There are the but’s though. “Sleepless Every Night” every night is pretty much a Nora clone, there’s the odd single-note breakdown (I think people who read my reviews regularly know how much I hate those), and of course there’s the band name, album title and album cover, which are just about as cliche as you can get. I’m not deducting anything over that though, I’m just saying a bit more creativity on those fronts would be greatly appreciated.
Despite the 3 rating, this album is just only a hair under 3.5. I didn’t mind listening to it to be honest, and heck, it’ll even get a few rotations in my car and media player.
